"Two months ago, he helped coach Justice Department officials on how to testify about the U.S. Attorneys’ firings. Rove attended a White House meeting to help shape the testimony of Justice Department officials set to appear in front of Congress. Was that a harmless part of his job, or an inappropriate attempt to mislead Congress?" Newsweek; May 5, 2007.
Really? In exactly what capacity was Mr. Rove serving when he did this?
Knowing that the integrity and reputation of the entire United States Department of Justice would be affected by the pending testimony of DOJ leaders, meticulous preparation of the Government's most senior lawyers for their testimony was critical. Professional trial attorneys often refer to this as "sandpapering" the witness. So, after surveying the motherlode of brilliant, experienced and savvy professional attorneys the Bush Administration had marshalled into the crack legal team tasked with shepherding and nurturing the entire legal system of the United States of America, including the FBI, through which due process and the rule of law are enforced, and from which all other rights and benefits that citizens possess are derived and/or enforced, the MENSA members that are Team Bush decided Karl Rove, a two bit Texas political bag man with no college degree of any kind, was the right man for the job? What; Gomer Pyle and Jethro Bodine weren't available?
Shockingly, this moment of genius produced the same excellent results as every single other idea they have ever had. Really, you've got to hand to this crew; they are nothing if not consistent. My apologies to the late David Halberstam for desecrating the phrase in the title to this post.
