The Dallas Morning News has a good follow-up story, including with friends and family of the accused.
It also talks more about the confusion with the jury polling, how three jurors objected to the statement that all agreed, but that two changed their minds after further deliberation.
So, the “hung” charges were all 11-1 for acquittal. As Bmaz said in comments to my original post, this makes it ludicrous that the government wants to retry this. It’s all about public perception.
But, more perceptive public perception has to wonder if the backstory isn’t kowtowing to AIPAC and American neoconservatives, at least in part.
