I'm sure that this is just another sign that the Surge™ is working

DEVELOPING STORY

Tahsin al-Sheikhly, the official spokesman for the Baghdad security plan was kidnapped from his home by armed militants today. The attack left three of his bodyguards dead.

An Iraqi official spoke with the press on condition of anonymity because they had not been authorized to speak to the press.

The officials said Sheikhly, a Sunni who often appeared with U.S. military and embassy officials at news conferences to tout the successes of the crackdown that began in Baghdad and surrounding areas more than a year ago, was abducted from his home in Baghdad's Al-Amin neighbourhood at around 2:30 pm (1130 GMT).

"Armed men stormed his home at a time when there were clashes in his neighbourhood," a security official with the interior ministry said.

"They burnt his home and stole two cars and weapons before fleeing with him."

I told 'em, god-damnit. I told them that they were being foolishly optimistic. I told them that when the guns fall silent, the person who stays alive assumes the other guy is reloading, they sure as hell don't bank on a Constantine-like conversion happening in mid fight. Fucking idiots.

Updates as the story develops...
