The Nightowl Newswrap

Nobody is attacking Scary Sarie's family but that didn't stop the McPalin campaign from blasting out a second fundraising appeal to the douchbags who support those two losers and signing her name to it claiming that was the case. "Friends, in the course of a few weeks, the Obama-Biden Democrats have launched attack after attack on me, my family and John McCain. They're desperate to win and they'll no doubt launch these attacks against other reformers on our ticket." When asked to name names, they came up with a Democrat no one has ever heard of, who apologized for his comment that fell far short of an "attack on her family" anyway; Andrew Sullivan, who isn't a Democrat, or even a citizen of this country who asked the campaign to produce medical records related to the birth of the youngest Palin whelp, and a diarist at Daily Kos. For the record the diary in question was taken down and the user banned. Apparently to Scary Sarie anything less than abject fealty to her is a hater on the attack. What the fuck ever. Persecution complex much?

Need a laugh? These folks seem to be dead serious about thinking that preserving the Reagan myth is the most pressing issue America faces right now. No liquids.

Jury selection underway in the trial of the most corrupt bastard of 'em all Ted Stevens is standing trial for knowingly submitting false disclosures to the senate. It is the first time in 27 years that a sitting senator has faced a federal jury.

McCain stands up for illegal immigrants...from Ireland Speaking to a largely Irish-American crowd in Scranton, PA today, he said that there are "50,000 Irish men and women in this country illegally who want to become citizens'' and that "we have to give them a path to citizenship."

Joe Biden is exactly right The commanding General of the National Guard absolutely should have a seat at the table with the Joint Chiefs, since over half of the veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq have been guardsmen who were called up.

Americans get it By a 2:1 margin, Americans affix the blame for the current economic crisis to the republican party.

Another republican official steps on his dick A county GOP chair in New Mexico has sparked a firestorm with his comment to a BBC reporter that "The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors. African-Americans came here as slaves. ... Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won't vote for a black president." The state party chair is calling for him to step down and Hispanics have reacted angrily. Ralph Arellanes of the Hispanic Roundtable of New Mexico told CNN, "I'm insulted and I'm outraged." The Obama campaign issued a similar statement by the speaker of the New Mexico House, Democrat Ben Lujan, saying, "I am outraged. ... It is an insult to the Hispanic community and to all of the voters of New Mexico.."

Pardon me while I roll on the floor and laugh at this dumbass Paul Lindemann, a republican councilman in Columbia, SC who was cited in July with his third DUI finds strength in the travails of Maggie Mooseburger and her disfunctional tribe. "I'm going to get everything resolved with the charge, and we're going to win in November as well," he insisted after the video of his arrest was released. He also suggested that vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's current problems may help him, because "people have started to recognize that everybody who's running for political office is as human as those sitting back home."

Head of China's food safety oversight body steps down as the breadth of the scandal of poisoned infant formula spread, and it was revealed that China's biggest producer of powdered milk had received complaints as early as December 2007 linking its infant formula to illnesses in babies. "During these eight months, the company did not inform the government and did not take proper measures, therefore making the situation worse," China Central Television reported. At least 53,000 infants have been sickened and four have died after ingesting infant formula tainted with the industrial chemical melamine.

T. Boone Pickens appeared at the National Press Club today to talk about his alternative energy plan. When he was asked whether he was having difficulty working with Democrats he responded that it was just the opposite - the opposition he is getting is from the "drill, baby, drill" republican lizard brains.

Disgusting, but not surprising Researchers at the University of Florida have found that it isn't just women who get screwed over in the workplace, egalitarian minded males do to. Male chauvanists outearn us all.

This is truly a first A new poll by American Research Group published today failed to register a single respondent stating the economy is getting better.
