Headzup on Fred Thompson's Withdrawal

Fred spent months and months pondering whether he would run. Finally he decided to run. He announced it on Jay Leno. After his announcement he took a nap. About the time the writers went on strike his campaign tanked. Maybe he just couldn't write his own lines. Headzup wishes Fred Thompson well. So do we.

Video after the break.

Fred Thompson Returns To Hollywood

Even though there is a writers strike Jay Leno came up with a philosophical joke last night that had my wife in stitches. "If Fred Thompson were to stop campaigning, how would you know?"

That joke proved prophetic. According to TPM Fred Thompson has just dropped out of the race. Which given his campaign's lack of activity brings up another philosophical question--"why did he bother?"

Freddo: Damn the revenue losses; full speed flat taxes ahead

Fred Thompson, saying people always overestimate the revenue losses when flat taxes are mentioned, is proposing a two-tier “flat” tax system.

Asked whether the plan would cut too deeply into federal revenues, the former Tennessee senator and actor said experts “always overestimate the losses to the government” when taxes are cut.

“We’ve known for years any time we have lowered taxes and any time we’ve lowered tax rates, we’ve seen growth in the economy,” Thompson said.

Sounds like he’s trying to mix the worst of flat taxes with the worst of the Laffer curve. Good luck with that one, Freddo; if you succeed, you will have trumped previous GOP stupidity on this issue, and that’s not easy to do.

And who’s the we? You, Laffer and the mouse in your pocket? Even many GOPers have stopped drinking that Kool-Aid.

The New Morning In America; Yawn... Same As The Old Morning In America

Well, the GOP's latest Hollywood "hunk" savior, Frederick of Hollywood Thompson, has shown himself to be a geriatric two bit hack that doesn't really know his ass from a hole in the ground on the critical issues; and, according to the discussion panel on ABC's This Week today, not to mention the New York Times, simply reads hoky sound bit bromides off of cue cards while campaigning. Wow; I guess he really is the new Ronald Reagan.

Fred Thompson Has Sex Appeal? Huh

I am waiting for a document to come back from my paralegal. During the wait I have been cruising the Internet reading comments. I roamed over to Firedoglake to read a post by Christy Hardin Smith. She has a good one up called Frederick Of Hollywood: Poseur? The post features a video from bravenewfilms called "Fred Thompson -- Greedy. Lobbyist. Sellout." It is cute. You might want to watch it.

While looking at that video I stumbled across a much better video from Rachel Maddow's Campaign Asylum called "Fred Thompson's Sex Appeal." Rachel is one of my favorites. I love her work. Give it a view. I think you will agree she has a really great take on sexy Fred.

Got to get back to lifting those books and toting those documents.

Lunchbox 9-7-07, It's Bombshell Time

The Chiefs lost today (I guess that's not going to be all that unusual this year) and I needed a pick me up what with all the 1984 references lately (thanks for the comment consider wisely always), so here is today's funny. Adam Green is great. He has a less than serious take on Fred Thompson's entry into the Presidential race. We will be hearing a lot from Adam in the coming years.

Fred Thompson -- Ronald Reagan Clone?

This is just a personal observation, but having read the New York Times this morning I know why I don't like Fred Thompson and why I will probably never warm up to him. ADAM NAGOURNEY and JO BECKER wrote in the Times this morning

Fred D. Thompson had one central strategic goal as he formally began his presidential campaign on Thursday: to win over conservatives who are disheartened at their current choice of Republican candidates by positioning himself as the ideological and stylistic heir of Ronald Reagan.
Friends, we are electing a President of the United States. I don't want any candidate who needs to pretend to be somebody else. I want a President who is comfortable in his or her own skin. I want to vote for an original. I will not vote for a reflection.

For a long time now we have been electing Presidents as though we were picking horses at the derby. In 2000 the press gleefully reported that GWB was qualified to be President because he had good bloodlines--his sire was George HW and his dame was Barbara. That was good enough for the MSM, they didn't look much further. As a result we went to the polls and elected a man who is singularly unqualified to be President. We did the same thing in 2004.

I don't want to do that again in 2008. I want to know as much as possible about each of the candidates. I want to know whether a candidate might make a good president. If the Paper of Record is reporting that Fred Thompson is so insubstantial his handlers have elected to position him as the clone of a long dead President, Fred Thompson is disqualified. We need to keep looking.

Never forget, the campaign will soon be over. We will have to live with the bastard we elect for four full years.

Florida is Thompson Territory

We heard earlier this month that #3 House Republican guy and Florida Congressman, Andy Putnam, had jumped on the Thompson bandwagon.

But this is just silly.

Apparently 15 16 of Florida's state House of Representatives are coming out for Thompson:

Fifteen House Republicans, including four from Orange County's delegation, have committed to likely Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson.

The Thompson backers include local Reps. Sandy Adams of Orlando, David Mealor of Lake Mary, Bryan Nelson of Apopka and Steve Precourt of Orlando. Also signing on: Reps. Denise Grimsley, Larry Cretul, Doug Holder, Ralph Poppell, Seth McKeel, Mitch Needleman, Mike Davis, Don Brown, Dennis Ross, Jim Frishe and Clay Ford.

A sixteenth, Rep. Will Kendrick, has apparently verbally pledged to Thompson, the former U.S. senator and Law and Order actor who hasn't formally announced his candidacy but is expected to.

Many of them also wrote a letter to Thompson urging him to make his candidacy official, writing, "You are a leader who can unite our party and our nation."

Yep. The prestigious list includes my very own representative (in one of the reddest areas of the state - I wonder how that will fly?).

Aren't things a little out of control here? Florida's backing a horse that isn't even in the race. Apparently, Republicans think he is the reincarnation of Reagan. They're in for a rude awakening. He's a George Bush "empty thoughts and words" guy

Soon enough, these rats will be scrambling for the exits. Thompson will drop out because it is too much work or show his true colors early on and lose a lot of support. I'll be laughing my ass off at these idiots. Of course, most of the nation will be laughing with me.

Typical for here.

Tim Griffin Out In Arkansas

I first became interested in blogging because I became really, really interested in Tim Griffin, the protege of Karl Rove and former boss of Monica Goodling, who was named US Attorney in Arkansas after Bud Cummins was asked to leave. I just couldn't understand why that happened. Anyway, it can be argued that the entire US Attorney scandal started with Tim Griffin.

The Arkansas Times reports that Griffin is out as US Attorney effective June 1,2007. According to the TPMMuckraker Griffin is talking with the Thompson campaign about a top job.

Last week Sara Taylor left the Administration. Griffin this week. Both tied to caging activities in the 2004 election. I wonder. Can Sara be far behind. And what about Karl Rove. Shouldn't he be looking for work about now?
