First off, I'd also like to thank Blue Girl for coming up with the idea of having a group to watch and report upon the doings of our elected representatives. Everybody here has a unique knowledge of their home regions that will provide detailed knowledge that we all can share to evaluate the work of Congress, and also many of the state and local legislatures.
Blue Girl has asked me to volunteer to watch the Volunteer State. From time to time I'll contribute my impressions of Tennessee politicians, both those elected to the US Congress and state and local characters I find interesting. I'm not a native Tennessean, but a Damnyankee who's lived down here 13 years. The ins and outs of Tennessee politics (as well as a number of the people) never cease to amaze me, and I hope to be able to share some of that amazement with you folks.
I'll also look at some of the other Southern states from time to time, at least until we can recruit more bloggers from the region. Blue Girl has asked me to sort of keep an eye on Kentucky. My wife has family in the Bluegrass State, but I don't have a lot of knowledge of their politics. They have a special kind of weirdness up there. For those wanting more detailed knowledge of Kentucky politics, I recommend the excellent Bluegrass Report.
Other areas of interest for me are downstate Illinois, where I spent most of my first 33 years, and Kansas, where I went to college. But I do a lot of reading (prefer that to blogging, really), and I might just post on anywhere in the US that pertains to the purpose of this site.
Finally, because one should never miss a chance to blogwhore, I invite you to join the eight regular readers who make Pole Hill Sanitarium their choice for socio-cultural commentary and classic rock trivia.
Again, I appreciate the opportunity to be here. The next few years should be fun.
