Excellent!

Just when I think I need to write off Congressional Democrats as gutless fools or ineffective tools, a member or two will exhibit the behavior we were looking for when we helped them gain the majority: holding the feet of this (mis)administration to the fire!

Democratic lawmakers set up a possible court showdown with President George W. Bush on Wednesday by summoning two of his former aides to testify about the controversial firing of federal prosecutors last year.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont said in a letter to [White House political director Sara] Taylor that she had until June 28 to turn over documents related to the inquiry and must appear before his committee on July 11.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, meanwhile, issued subpoenas for documents and testimony from [White House counsel Harriet] Miers, who was ordered to testify on July 12.

Perhaps my expectations are becoming exceedingly low, but after the War Funding Bill debacle any sign of life from these guys is encouraging.
