BAGHDAD -- The unrelenting carnage across Iraq continued Sunday, with at
least 50 people killed in explosions, shootings and strangulations, a day after
up to 150 people were killed in the suicide bombing of a northern Iraq
marketplace.
Prominent Shiite and Sunni politicians called on Iraqi civilians to take up
arms to defend themselves after a weekend of violence that claimed more than 220
lives.
