Mission Accomplished!

"Ah'm tryin tuh set the bar low for future preznits"

Only 23 percent of Americans said they approve of President Bush’s job performance in a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg survey, which is a new low for him in that poll. Seventy-three percent of respondents said they disapproved of the job Bush is doing.

He's Not a Democrat (and that's no joke)

We're talking about Joe Lieberman, of course. Brave New Films has launched a “Lieberman Must Go” petition drive. The fine folks at BNF say Joe Lieberman has overtly supported and defended President Bush and John McCain’s key policies. He therefore no longer deserves a chairmanship or leadership role in the Senate Democratic Caucus.

Lieberman is NOT a Democrat. He did NOT win the Democrat nomination for his re-election bid in 2006 and had to run as an independent. Why the Senate leadership ever allowed him to remain part of the Senate Democratic Caucus is beyond me.

Brave New Films has an excellent video up. Go watch it and sign the petition. Let's make room for a TRUE Democrat.

Another Disaster, Another Bush Vacation

Subhead from an ABC News article:

The businesslike traveler turns tourist: Bush soaks in Europe like only a president can
Also from ABC News:
He said his thoughts and prayers are with flood victims back home. "I know there's a lot of people hurting right now."
Seems aWol is on another vacation while parts of America are underwater. Upon his return, perhaps he can repeat the political theater of New Orleans following Katrina:

He could replay his speech from Jackson Square using Mays Island as a backdrop.

And he could pull firefighters and National Guard members away from relief efforts for a photo-op.

Bush on the Economy: LIAR

Original photo: REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque

Friday's news was not good: The Labor Department reported December's new jobs were the smallest monthly gain since 2003. Oil prices topped $100 per barrel for the first time. The housing slump continues. The Dow dropped for the third straight day.

But in BushWorld, both the economy and financial markets are still strong.
'This economy of ours is on a solid foundation, but we can't take economic growth for granted and there are signs that cause us to be ever more diligent to make sure that good policies come out of Washington,' Bush said today at the White House, after meeting for the first time with the president's working group on financial markets.
How much longer can aWol's nose grow?

Ted Stevens Over Acts

During an interview with the Anchorage Daily News editorial board, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) was asked how, in light of ongoing federal investigations into him, he could “be effective in Congress.” Instead of addressing the question, Stevens attacked the paper:

This paper has caused me more difficulty, and I’ve told you that before, than anything else. You’ve created me as the senator-for-life. You’ve been hanging me weekly. […]

I’ve spent hours here with you here in the past, and I’ve never seen any result of it at all. … This paper has done nothing but try to assassinate me.
Stevens is evidently upset about coverage of events like the FBI raid of his home, which marked the first time in history federal investigators searched a sitting U.S. senator's residence.

To paraphrase Sarah Vowell, "Assassins and self-important senators invite the same basic question: Just who do you think you are?"

U.S.S The Romneys

(Inspired by this)

"One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."

-- Mitt Romney, explaining yesterday why it's okay that none of his five sons enlisted in the military.

Gonzo's Greatest Hits

I first posted this on my own blog Feb. 8, 2006. With AGAG so much in the news I thought it worth another look. Perhaps one of these was the electronic surveillance program Fredo wanted to discuss in the hospital with John Ashcroft.

During Monday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings into Bush's illegal domestic spying program, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales stated:

"President Washington, President Lincoln, President Wilson, President Roosevelt have all authorized electronic surveillance on a far broader scale."

In honor of Presidents' Day, I offer these long-lost images of Washington and Lincoln explaining their domestic electronic surveillance programs.
