Just Let It Go

Last week President Bush usurped the Constitutional power of Congress by adding 4 signing statements to the 2008 Defense Authorization Bill. Rob Riggle explains to Jon Stewart just why people aren't up in arms over President Bush's unconstitutional signing statements. George Bush is officially a short timer. Come January 21, 2009, George Bush is Platt County Tech's problem. Rob's advice: "just let it go."

Daily Show video after the break.

Who Needs Comedy Writers When We Have The Media?

Jon Stewart is winging it these days. His writers are still on strike. Comedy Central is probably asking Jon why he needs writers when he has Soledad O'Brien and the rest of the consolidated corporate media. The segment is entitled Mitt Romney Erupts, but it is so much more.

Watch the video we chose after the jump

The Daily Show's Take On Simulated Drowning

Jon Stewart "explains how torture such as waterboarding sounds so much more fun than simulated drowning."* Tonight's funny.

*The quotation marks are to show my solidarity with the striking writers. Right on my brothers and sisters.

Comedy Central released this statement regarding the special reports: “Join The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for ‘Operation Silent Thunder: The Daily Show in Iraq,’ a week of special reports filed from Iraq. Yes, actual Iraq, not green-screen Iraq. Daily Show senior war correspondent Rob Riggle will provide in-depth coverage and insights from the front lines throughout the country where he was embedded with the troops and learned just how hot 120° really feels.”

Riggle himself is a major in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he served in Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.

Jon Stewart Examines Alberto's Hearing Problems

or "Mommy. Why Is The Lying Man Still In Charge Of The Law?"

Comment is not really necessary.

After the hearing Gonzales is rumored to have hummed a familiar song.

I think he should go. Of course, if he stays, Alberto makes life easy for comedy writers. An impeachment is always good for laughs. What do you think?

Tony Snow Blames Clinton Administration For White House RNC Email Scandal

We know four things about Tony Snow. First, he is beloved by the White House Press Corp because he is one of their own. Second, he has cancer. Third, he takes every possible opportunity to blame Bill Clinton for any and every White House failure. Fourth, as Jon Stewart recently demonstrated he is more than willing to lie, boldly and with out the slightest shame.

He seems sure the people in the press corp will never challenge him when he lies. He's right. After all Tony is beloved and has cancer. It just wouldn't be right to point out when Tony is lying. That is the job of a comedian, not an official white house stenographer.

Yesterday while answering a question about the RNC email scandal Tony Snow told the assembled press corp that the White House just followed the pattern established by the previous administration. Think Progress has the video.

Guess what, when asked by Raw Story's Michael Roston the Democratic National Committee took exception.

"That's simply untrue," Stacie Paxton, a spokeswoman for the Democratic National Committee, told RAW STORY in a Tuesday phone call. "Clinton White House officials did not have DNC e-mail accounts."
Any bets whether this Tony Snow fib makes the national news? If it does I would wager the Press will report it as fact and ignore the DNC denial. Nobody in the national media will actually investigate. I guess we will only hear about this new Tony Snow lie from the comedians. After all Tony is beloved and he has cancer.

What A Joke--Jon Stewart v. Network News

Rich Rojas has written an interesting opinion piece for the Blatt.com, the online version of Texas A&M's student newspaper.

The Daily Show and broadcast news include all the same parts: a congenial anchor and a staff of correspondents on a flashy set, interviewing big name guests. The difference is one is a parody, while the other is the real deal - but deciphering which is which seems to become harder every day.
In three short sentences Rojas explains the debacle at CBS News.
Last summer, CBS thought after the forced retirement of 76-year-old anchorman Dan Rather, it would be a time to spiffy up the newscast for the much-desired younger audience. Their solution: Katie Couric. In their minds, they revolutionized the CBS Evening News by bringing in more features such as "exclusive" photographs of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby, and an anchorwoman who has as less journalism gravitas than Stewart.
Of course, the result is that CBS news is in the dumper with lower ratings than at any point during Rather's tenure. Maybe CBS should try using talented comedians to cover real news instead of asking professional journalists to cover fake news. As for Katie Couric, maybe they should buy her a pony. The people running network news, and especially CBS, might want to read the Texas A&M student newspaper.

Why I Am A Lousy Blogger

I like to start my day with a cruise around the net. Usually I post something I find here. This morning I found something right away and instead of cruising, I lingered for an hour. Bill Moyers Journal has just posted Friday's show on the web. If like mine, your local public television show is doing a fundraising auction or if your local public television channel doesn't carry Moyers, spend an hour this morning watching his show. He has interviews with Josh Marshall and Jon Stewart, and a story about the late David Halberstam. Trust me, the hour you spend watching Moyers will be better spent than watching Tim Russert's dog and pony show.

Sorry for not finding the outrage or bit of humor this morning. Blue Girl needs to pay me more if she doesn't want me distracted by high quality television.

Monica Goodling and JiffyLaw

OK, you now know what site I was looking at this morning. Crooks and Liars has also posted Jon Stewart's take on Monica Goodling and Regent Law School. Again I don't know how to post the video so follow the link. Here is a link to an older Bill Maher take on Regent University.

Jon Stewart Examines The Media's Reponse To V-Tech

Crooks and Liars has posted Jon Stewart's take on the response of the media, especially the Media Whores (tm) of Cable TV, to the Virginia Tech Massacre. You can follow the link to the Video. I would post it here but I don't want to run afoul of Comedy Central's copyright team. Well, actually I don't know how to do it, and saying that I am worrying about copyright makes me sound more lawyer like and less like a dolt.

Hey everybody, I added an image of Jon Stewart. Isn't that Glenn Beck over his shoulder? Cool
